Los Gatos Porcelain Veneers for a Flawless Smile
Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin, durable sheaths of dental porcelain that are meticulously crafted and color-matched to blend seamlessly with the rest of your smile. These tooth-colored, stain-resistant shells are carefully bonded to the front surfaces of your natural teeth, effectively masking a wide range of flaws in a way that looks completely natural.
Available at our family dental practice in Los Gatos, porcelain veneers are a simple solution to correct several kinds of aesthetic issues affecting your teeth. The cosmetic concerns most frequently corrected with dental porcelain veneers are:
- Deep, persistent stains or discoloration that can't be whitened
- Chips or cracks in tooth enamel
- Mild to moderate tooth misalignment
- Uneven spacing or gaps between front teeth
- Teeth that are misshapen or too small relative to other teeth
- Excessive gum tissue that causes teeth to appear too short

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?
With proper care and precaution against damage and staining, porcelain veneers can last 10 to 30 years. To keep your veneers perfect as long as possible, avoid using your teeth to bite your nails or open bottles, and use a mouthguard if you grind your teeth at night.
What Happens to Teeth Under Veneers?
The natural teeth under veneers are left intact, as only a small portion of enamel is removed to make room for your porcelain veneers. The nerves and tissues within your tooth aren't affected by the procedure. Porcelain veneers are molded to the shape of your teeth, so very little enamel needs to be shaved away. In addition to being molded to the shape of your teeth, porcelain resin veneers offer a natural appearance by matching the surface texture and color of your natural teeth.
Are Veneers Painful?
There are two types of veneers that are available: Composite resin veneers using the Bioclear method and porcelain veneers. Bioclear composite veneers do not require removing tooth structure prior to application and can be completed in one appointment. Because less tooth preparation is required before application, our cosmetic dentist can simply seal the veneer against your natural teeth with dentistry bonding materials. This ease of application makes composite resin veneers less painful than other dental veneer options.
With proper care, your veneers can last a long time, but this option requires more upkeep than others and needs regular restorations. Porcelain veneers are also easily installed; they simply involve a bit more dental prep that requires two appointments. The veneers are custom created by a dental lab and the veneers are cemented in place. Porcelain veneers do not wear down over time and maintain their excellent esthetics.
Can You Eat With Veneers?
It's important to limit your diet to avoid chipping or damaging your veneers. You should avoid the following foods and habits with your veneers:
- Hard food and sticky candy
- Crunchy foods
- Tough meat
- Biting your nails
- Clenching or grinding your teeth without wearing a night guard
Of course, you can still enjoy eating your favorite foods. Our trained professionals will instruct you on how to modify your habits to extend the life of your veneers.
